How to Keep a Pretty Smile

Dentists can tell you all day long about the health reasons for taking good care of your mouth and teeth, but in the end a lot of that is terminology many people just don’t understand. When you don’t understand something, you tune it out. For most people, the best reason to engage in good dental health is to keep your smile straight and pretty! If you want to wow people when you smile, the right routines at home and at the dentist are the best way to do it. Here are some tips and tricks for how to keep a pretty smile for many years to come.

Keep a Pretty Smile

Everyone wants to keep a pretty smile. Crooked teeth or teeth that are yellowed or decayed are no fun, and they can hurt your self-image and confidence. A healthy set of teeth, on the other hand, can build confidence and help you go through life happier and feeling good. The best part is, it’s not difficult to make sure that your teeth stay healthy and strong!

Brush and Floss

The core of good dental health is a routine of brushing and flossing. You should brush your teeth every day, at least twice a day for at least two minutes at a time. Brushing when you first get up and right before bed are the best times to do it. Don’t forget to brush your tongue a few times while you take care of your teeth! This is because germs in your mouth that can cause tooth decay build up on your tongue as well as your teeth, and they can give you bad breath as well.

Once a day, usually before bed, you should floss your teeth with a gentle back-and-forth motion between each tooth. This will loosen and get rid of particles of food that your toothbrush cannot reach.

Watch Your Sugar

There are a lot of reasons you should limit sugar in your diet. It tastes good but is very bad for you and can make you less healthy overall. It’s also the biggest culprit when it comes to tooth decay. Sugar is sticky and gets all over your teeth, turning into plaque and tartar which can cause cavities, yellow teeth and even bleeding gums. You don’t have to give it up entirely, but try to limit how much sugar you take in every day. Your smile will thank you for it!

Visit Your Dentist

It’s very important that you visit your dentist twice a year for a professional cleaning and examination. Your dentist can get plaque and tartar off your teeth that your brushing and flossing can’t, and can spot signs of other problems before they get too serious. Your dentist is your best friend when it comes to a healthy mouth!
